The transmission lines are just the hot legs. Neutral and ground get created on the secondary side of any transformers. So the concept of neutral and ground is "local".

I thought the neutral was the unshielded wire between the poles.  That's how my house is hooked up...

There is no neutral on power poles. Just hots. One, two, or three usually.

Just standard power like at home.  Not three phase.  It's an FM radio station.  I would assume the hot is at top and neutral below, but it's been a while since I've seen it myself.  Goes from HV on the road to the tower's (power/utility) pole with a transformer/fuse.

Two robins on Saturday.  Starling a few minutes ago.  No nests up there - maybe that's what they are trying to do?

What kind of power line?  Like three phase on a cross arm or single phase with the hot at the top and neutral down below etc?
Nesting activity?  Seem way late in the year for that.  What kind of bird?

On Saturday we had a power outage.  Beautiful day.  Towers on batteries, but after an hour we head up there with a generator.  Plug it in and we're good to go.  Outage was caused by a bird on the pole and the fuse popped.

Power company comes by, puts up a new fuse.  Power is back.  He gets in the truck and drives down the lane, about 50 feet, and *POP*.  Another bird and fuse.  Replaces another.  Good for a few more hours.

Then this morning - power outage AGAIN.  A third "bird" on the ground below the fuse.

Obviously something's going on, being it's been three times in three days when this has never happened since ~2008.  Maybe someone put peanut oil and the rodents are trading services?
