There are several levels of testers.  Do you want just a basic wiremap
tester that finds shorts, opens and miswires?  Something a little more
advanced that maybe includes wire length, distance to fault, etc.  Or a full
blown qualifier that will test for crosstalk, return loss, etc. and certify
to Cat 5/6/7 specs?  Usually the last category requires periodic calibration
and can produce reports that you submit to a customer proving the wiring
meets the required specs.

I've got a Fluke MicroScanner which is kind of an advanced wiremap tester.
It tests all 8 wires plus shield, and can display wire length and distance
to fault.  It is definitely not a cable qualifier.
