I think we are using PIAF, at least we were originally.

If there is no NAT, I don't see why that would be an issue. Which Asterisk 
system are you using? We have zero
issues with Grandstream when everything is behind the firewall. There can be 
issues with some routers/firewalls
(like SonicWall) but never when they are both on the LAN.
