Just use an XL model, they already have the connector for external batteries,
and they have a heftier charger than the models that only have the internal
batteries. If you don’t want to make your own Powerpole cables, you can get
them made to order by Powerwerx. Welding cable is nice.

Im trying to get the guts of a smart UPS out to a smaller housing. Weve gone to
not running the internal battery since they like to expand and you cant get
them out, and just running external packs. Schneider only has a low wattage DIN
mount one that does this. any of you guys every pulled the guts and not started
a fire?

APC has two lines.

The stores sell Smart UPS as well. Those are the good ones. The shitty ones
are Back UPS. Those things are complete trash, don't use them ever.

Not all APC units are the same. Their “consumer” line that you can buy at
Walmart and staples are junk unless you need something for your desktop
computer only.

If you buy the server room/data center versions they are much more robust.

We’ve been using them for 18+ years and I enjoy that they let me sleep at night.

I had some bad experiences with APC units just outright failing and dropping
power to everything about a decade or so ago. I take it you haven't
experienced this?

Does anyone have recommendations on what has been working well for them as far
as UPS / battery backups for installations that are climate controlled? It
seems like overkill to install something like an Alpha in a situation like this.
