I might be wrong, but I think he means 7 flat pins in a round
configuration, as opposed to 7 round pins in a round configuration.
What does UHaul Use for pin configuration? I figure that those trailers
make it from coast to coast on a weekly basis, so whatever they do is
probably the most standard.

7 pin flat seems to be on almost everything around here except for the
semi. It is round. But the wiring pinout of the connectors are
diffferent.
I think I am going to make come kind of comprehensive test box that
has the plug, socket. Lights on each wire and a switch to energize
each wire.

7 pin round is what's most common, but then there are different
pinouts. What's "common" isn't so common.

I have to do 7 pin round for the semi. I am planning to do 7 pin flat
for everything else.
But I want the wiring to be the same and I want it to be as common to
other things as possible.
I wish there were standards.

They make adapters to go between. I find the old 4 prong to be the
most common on the trailers I have used/rented. My truck came with
both a 7pin and a 4 pin jack already installed, but it also has a
stock trailer brake control.

I have found so many different socket and plug diagrams that I
find it amazing that it has never been standardized.
I am going to build a converter so I can plug the semi tractor
into some of my other trailers that the the flat blade connectors.
It will take an electric brake controller in the semi and some
kind of diode box to combine some of the lines. Those are
available on the retail market.
But the number of connections and the wiring of the connections
seems all over the map.
Opinions please.
