Hello Jordan, Yes, That is exactly needs to do with this new Ads API, you need to iterate all the accounts you get through customer_client (https://groups.google.com/d/msg/adwords-api/jbwX0-Nso4U/_Aq3F7_kCQAJ)
You can not get account hierarchy in single API call like Its possible in Adwords API. Also this will require significant time to load results, like you said.
