Hi, To create an imageAd, you'd need to upload the image <https://github.com/googleads/googleads-java-lib/blob/master/examples/adwords_axis/src/main/java/adwords/axis/v201603/misc/UploadImage.java>first using MediaService, then use that media id to create an image Ad. I am not quite sure what reference id you are referring to and why it would give you a negative value.
