Based on what you've described, it sounds like your application is a good candidate for the OAuth 2.0 web flow <https://developers.google.com/identity/protocols/OAuth2WebServer>. We mention it <https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/guides/authentication#access_and_refresh_token> when describing how you can set up authentication in the AdWords API. The software user wouldn't need to deal with things like developer tokens.
