So I found that if I commented this out:
// Don't run the example if the file is being included.
//if (__FILE__ != realpath($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'])) {
// return;
//}
the script runs in the browser.
My question now is: do I need this?
I'm running XAMPP on Windows 7.
