Hi Guys,

So, I was wondering exactly what steps happen when AdWords receives a Text
Ad that contains both Dynamic Keyword Insertion and an Ad Param
e.g. Description Line 1: Buy our {KeyWord:stuff} Today at price ${param1:xx}
My question relates to specifically the order in which the length of the
dynamic Keyword, it's default value, param1, and it's default value are
assessed, when deciding if the text is too long. (we could complicate this
further by considering an additional ad param as well)

My guess is that probably dynamic keyword insertion happens first, and then
the ad param is considered afterwards, but I would like to know for sure.

The example 'Buy our {KeyWord:stuff} Today at price ${param1:xx}' contains
25 non-dynamic characters.
Description Line 1 can handle up to 35 characters
Let's say the keyword to insert is 'television'. This is 10 characters.
This is valid, making the total character count 35. But then when we come
to the ad param insert there are no more characters allowed, so we would
end up with the ad 'Buy our Television Today at price $'
Let's say that param1 has a value '1000'. We could complete both the
keyword and ad param insertion by taking the option 'Buy our stuff Today at
price $1000'

I have previously seen references to exceeding the character allowance
through using dynamic keyword insertion. This seemed somewhat of a grey
area, and I'm not really interested in what may sometimes work, to get
extra characers. I want to know for sure that something will work, and am
fine with sticking to the stated maximum characters (even if it may
occassioanlly be possible to exceed this). I just need to know exactly how
the calculation is performed, so I don't send ads to AdWords that result in
something such as the example above 'Buy our Television Today at price $'.

Any info is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris
