Upon checking the request on my end, I was able to replicate the issue as the ad_group_criterion.age_range.type returns the null value as well. However, I can say that this is expected and let me explain why. I can see that the report that you've used is gender_view and it means that it is dedicated only to gender reports only. With this, even though the ad_group_criterion.age_range.type is selectable in the ad_group_criterion resource, it will not report any data for age range criterion. With this, to get the metrics and attributes for age range criterion, then I would suggest using its dedicated report type and it is age_range_view.
