I don't know about API because I have not worked with it, but with all
the rest of search volume tools.

But what i know is that you cannot book brand names.

Of course though a brand name has volume and maybe even that you reach
with it a website non-brand related (e.g. newpapers writing about the
brand).

You can look into search volumes from so many Google tools: the
AdWords KeywordTool, logged and non logged in, the search based tool,
ratios of search volume in Trends/Insights.
