invalid filenames in linux caused by foreign characters won't back up

Get the following message when backing up a Ubuntu 12 server with tsm client 
6.3.0.

01/13/14   12:37:12 ANS4042E Object name 
'/usr/share/ca-certificates/mozilla/TÜBİTAK_UEKAE_Kök_Sertifika_Hizmet_Sağlayıcısı_-_Sürüm_3.crt'
 contains one or more unrecognised characters and is not valid.

Checked the client manual, and, if I understood the section correctly, changed 
the LANG variable to en_US.

Added “LANG=en_US” to the startup script, restarted the client, but no change 
in behavior.

How do I solve this?
