Hi Chip and/or Forum Recipients: Here's the latest update:
I created a .cmd file on the proxy server and double-clicked it on the desktop. It started up okay and then gave me the following errors in tsmfile.txt: ANS9280E 'VMCHOST' option must be set when running this operation. ANS9266E Failure initializing virtual machine environment. Can not find vcbMounter.exe command. RC=109 Obviously I cannot just double-click the script to execute but I'm not sure how to schedule a 'TSM server call on'. This script almost looks like it has to schedule another whole VCB backup just to show the files being backed up? My supervisor thinks I'm headed in the wrong direction if that is the case. My thoughts: VCB doesn't make this easy like a TSM agent loaded on the VM box that gives me a dsmsched.log file. Should I load a TSM agent on the VM box and click on the 'restore' option in the BAClient to determine what is being backed up in VCB and if we want to exclude it? Is there some way I can check the backup archive bit to see what is getting backed up? Sorry for the questions but it seems overly difficult (at least for me) to know what files VCB is backing up. Thanks. I use scripts (.cmd files) local to the VCB proxy server that TSM schedules on the TSM server call on. An example: cd c:\progra~1\tivoli\tsm\baclient dsmc backup vm -vmlist=VCBclient1,VCBclient2 -vmbackuptype=file > tsmfile.txt Using the '> tsmfile.txt' allows me to view info about the backup. -----Original Message----- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU] On Behalf Of Danny Schmanny Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2011 10:16 AM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: [ADSM-L] VCB Incrementals: Is there a log of what is backed up? Greetings All: When a backup TSM agent is loaded on a backup client, we can see the results of an incremental backup in a log file that is stored on the client (i.e. dsmsched.log). When we run a VCB incremental from the proxy server, there doesn't appear to be any log on the client of the files backed up (i.e. no dsmsched.log and no other pertinent log file that I can see). There also does not appear to be any log on the proxy server of the VCB incremental files being backed on the clients. How can we determine what is being backed up when VCB incrementals are run from the proxy server? We would like to determine if we need to exclude certain files/directories from being backed up. Do we have to resort to using Windows Explorer on the VM to see what is there? My supervisor does not like that as an answer and is thinking we are possibly missing a simpler solution. Any ideas on what we have possibly overlooked would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
