Thanks, I already read that VMWare document. I am not trying to write my own backup solution. I got most of my questions answered by IBM TSM folks and it looks like there are a couple options I can go with that I will need to test.
1) VM client with TSM loaded can perform it's own backups image and file level. This might remove the our VM team from the equation and allow the customer to configure the TSM Client (v6.2.x) to perform the image and file level backups to meet their own needs. 2) let our VMWare proxy server run the image backups and our VM Admins manage the images and recovery for the client. I like option 1. :P But it still will require the VM Admin to run the converter process in either case.
