Upgrade can be achieved with a downtime of less than an hour when using a new system or breaking a clustered configuration. I walked down the line before I found the article. If I remember correctly, it basically it boils down to: move all data to tape -> disable tape movement et al. -> backup db (eg. to a share) -> restore db to the alternate system -> on new system, rename TSM to NEWTSM -> upgrade -> rename TSM to OLDTSM -> rename NEWTSM to TSM -> Swap IP/DNS -> enable tape operations -> export updated data from OLDTSM to TSM -> retire OLDTSM For German GSE members, a presentation on the topic will be available shortly on the GSE web. You just need enough disk space on OLDTSM to hold the data flowing in during the migration. I used the procedure to swap servers, whole procedure took > 2 days for a 150-odd GB heavily fragmented database. Downtime for clients was considerably less than an hour.
