That seems unnecessary to me, just like running defrag on a filesystem doesn't help it if you delete all the files on it first.
>>My question is: Once the volumes in the disk storage pool are empty, would it further reduce any chance for fragmentation in the disk storage pool to remove and re-define the disk storage pool volumes? -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:ads...@vm.marist.edu] Namens Robert Clark Verzonden: vrijdag 7 mei 2010 22:11 Aan: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Onderwerp: [ADSM-L] Reducing fragmentation in disk storage pools of type disk. (TSM Server 5.5.3.0 on Linux 2.6.9-89.0.11.ELsmp x86_64) I'm working with some disk storage pools (type disk) that traditionally have not been migrated to the point of being empty. There have been times recently when we've struggled to get the disk storage pool migrated quickly enough to keep it from filling almost enntirely. We suspect this is leading to the log getting pinned. We've adjusted the hi and lo migration thresholds, and have made some plumbing improvements to speed up migration. As a precaution, we're also migrating the disk storage pool until it is empty. My question is: Once the volumes in the disk storage pool are empty, would it further reduce any chance for fragmentation in the disk storage pool to remove and re-define the disk storage pool volumes?
