Sam, If you are backing up a CIFs share, I would encourage you to investigate the "-snapdiff" option run from a windows server. This will create a snapshot of the volume on the filer and then you only backup the snapshot (or what has changed since the last snapshot) - like an incremental backup on steriods. The first time you perform a -snapdiff, there will be no difference form performing a normal incremental, but subsequent -snapdiff backups should be significantly faster than a normal incremental. There will be no "noodling" through the filesystem to see if a file has changed because in the snapshot all the files are changed files.
