Funny you all mention 6 years.

http://www.news.com.au/business/bank-of-queenslands-boq-eftpos-terminals-leaving-retailers-in-red/story-e6frfm1i-1225815661315

" RETAIL businesses across the country have lost thousands of dollars over the
long weekend because a computer glitch left shoppers unable to use the Bank of
Queensland's (BOQ) Eftpos terminals.

RBOQ's Eftpos machines skipped ahead six years when the clock ticked over to
January 1 and started date stamping January 2016.

Do you mean libraries from other makers, or other IBM hardware? Our mainframe
guys have their eyes open.

Hi,

yes - seems like Binary Coded Decimal problem - not only IBM libraries are
affected.

We'll just have to wait for IBM to wipe the egg off its face. VJ in Prague
seems to have it right. The logging code written for the 3494 or whatever
seems to have been propagated thru all IBM tape libraries.

Well, I just found it in ours. At this point I'd assume it's fairly global.
If anyone gets / finds a fix, let us know. I have two 3584s I'd like to get
back from the future. :-D

Well its simple ...

0x9 in binary = 9 in decimal
0x10 in binary = 16 in decimal

y2k bug strikes back.

Keith

We've got the same issue on two TS3500 libraries (running code v8870 and v7420).

It's funny as we were only reminiscing last week about the fun we'd had 10
years ago fighting the millennium bug. We even joked about having systems today
that weren't 'decade compliant', but dismissed the idea for being too silly!

Happy New Year to the ADSM-L community.
