We use Oracle Hyperion also and when we backup the server containing the ESSBASE service, it is shutdown first before the backup is done, then restarted afterwards. However, we have determined that this is not working very well. We often have to reboot the hyperion servers several times a week. We have 7 servers as part of hyperion. I have the instructions from Oracle/Hyperion what shows the backup strategies for the hyperion environment. I can email it to you if you wish. The document was written by Linda Babusci but I don't know if she is still with Oracle/Hyperion.
