I agree. Just use the AIX install cd/dvd and follow the instructions to reload via sysback.
We use a cronjob to backup our machines via sysback on a weekly basis. Then use the client to backup data daily. Sysback works great and is cheap, too! Not only can you create backups and boot and restore from standalone media, but it also integrates with your NIM server. And if THAT's not enough for a posting on a TSM listserv, you can send your sysback backups to TSM to store, and restore from there, too. When you boot to restore (either from your sysback-enabled NIM server or your standalone floppy/DVD/tape), you are presented with a menu that not only allows you to Just Restore your system (again either from TSM, standalone media, or NIM), but also lets you make changes to the LVM structure when you do. Dunno why more AIX shops don't use it; it's been a hit wherever I've seen it.
