You could also use an enterprise scheduler to issue a "Define ClientAction", which is what we do. The node set to prompted should be fine, as the server will prompt the node when it is time to run even if you change schedules once a month.

The script would exit immediately when run on the first day of a month, and execute a 'dsmc incremental' command otherwise.
