2.5GB isn't all that large though. I recently gound out the backup job on one of my machines was timing out because of an errant 131GB file.

Adrian - Windows has historically had memory allocation issues. In this case, I suspect that your Windows 2003 is the 32-bit edition, which is probably undersized for the more demanding work that your system is now doing.
