Orin, By default, Data Protection for Exchange will restore data back into the live Exchange Server and into the original storage group and database. The Microsoft Exchange Server requires that the database be dismounted for this operation. If that is not what you want, it would help to understand what exactly you are trying to do. Are you trying to restore in to an Exchange 2003 Recovery Storage Group? Are you trying to restore to a different server? Do you just want to restore the .EDB, .STM, and .LOG files so that you can manipulate them with 3rd-party tools?
