Can the upper management get any more vague with their request? Throughput of what, data being backed up...data being restored...what? Personally, my concerns lay in Disaster Recovery, because that's where the rubber meets the road. It also depends upon the size of your files and whether your data is collocated, are you running older SCSI drives or newer fiber drives? It all makes a difference.
