The resulting line on AIX should look something like this (works for me anyway):
dsmsrv:2:once:/usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/rc.adsmserv >/var/tsm/tsmserv.log 2>&1 It's probably a good idea to let this be the last line in /etc/inittab. It sounds like there is an asterisk in a Priority position in the file.
