Hi Nancy, Jurjen is right: just look at the kernel version to identify the linux version involved. The standard TSM-Client plays nicely with the ESX host. To back up the ESX-guests, you can choose according to your needs: running ESX-guests on NAS, you can snap the guests (very fast and very neat backup and recovery!) using the linux host client to backup the .vmdk files (fast image-like backup and recovery) Installing a TSM-Client on the guest (reacts just like any TSM-Client with file-level restore) or combine any of them
For the Image-like Backups just make sure the ESX guest is in a consistent state, e.g. shut down the Guest or use a third-party tool (I guess Symantec offers one).
