Well, I figured out what my problem was. In my dsm.opt file I hardcode
the path to my dsmerror and dsmsched logs. We put them at C:\Program
Files\Tivoli\TSM instead of letting them go to the \baclient\ folder.
Well, when I started the client for the image itself it was writing the
log files to the local C:\ thus stopping TSM from being able to get a
lock on it.
Luc, can you check to see if this might have also been your problem.
Commenting out the dsmsched and dsmerror lines in my dsm.opt is all I
had to do to get things working. Make sure you check for tracefile as
well.
Even though this was really my own fault I'd still like to respectully
request that a small note be made in the WinPE doc. I don't want to
open up the thread about who should be reading it and what their level
of expertise should be. I agree with IBM's stance on that. Still, I'd
like to request a note just the same.
While I'm requesting updates to the doc nother thing that I have found
quite usefull with both these procedures and ASR is to first use
regedit to determine what value is changed when setting your NIC to 100
Full. This way prior to performing a backup or restore in WinPE or
restore with ASR I first run regedit and set the value from Auto Auto
to 100 Full. As you can image this greatly speeds up the time for
recovery when using 10/100 NIC's. As an example my IBM Nefinity
Ethernet card has a string value called "SpeedDuplex" that when set to
0 is Auto Auto and when set to 4 is 100 Full.

I downloaded and tried many of the sysinternal programs. In my output below you
will see a "dir" command where I list them. Only two of them ran in the WinPE
environment. "DiskMon" launched its GUI without any errors but it was blank.
"ListDlls" is a command line program which did run. The output from it is quite

I had previousely tried this process on a server that had a Win2K and Win2K3
OS. Today I tried it on a laptop that had a WinXP installation. Of course the

load any specific device drivers for. I wanted to rule out the RAID drivers as
