TSM 5.2.2 server, 5.2.3 clients. I've never seen that one exactly, but out of ten 2003 servers, we get maybe 2 failures a week with some sort of VSS error. When TSM tries to back up the system object using VSS, it tends to fail randomly, because VSS is somehow otherwise busy at the time. The message we get is slightly different (VSS SERVICE PROVIDER VETO), but we've never had it happen twice in a row on the same client.
But the hits I've seen on ibm.com imply that they are going to change the clinet in 5.2.4 to wait and retry the operation a couple of times. If this is an infrequent error, I would wait a couple of months and see if 5.2.4 fixes it. If it happens a lot, I would report it.
