I either enter the hostname and IP into the hosts file or in the dsm.opt file specify the servers IP address rather than a host name.

Yes, there are some issues with the DNS names for these boxes. How do I stop these errors / the TSM server from constantly trying to do DNS lookups ? Especially when it attempts this 100's of times, each generating an error message in my daily logs.
