My understanding is that 4770 fixes the problem to prevent future index
corruption. However, if you have a tape that already had it's index
corrupted *prior* to upgrading the firmware to 4770 (or later), then that
tape will exhibit problems until the index is rebuilt. Kind of a dormant
timebomb, waiting to go off.
