1) If the client used the host name as the node name by default, then
configure the NODENAME setting to match the old host name. For example, if
the original host name is HOSTA and the new name is HOSTB, then make sure
you use NODENAME HOSTA.

2) If this is a Windows client and the machine name has changed, make sure
you specify a destination directory for the restore, since default
behavior is to restore to the original location. Because Windows uses the
UNC name, if the machine name is different, then the original location no
longer exists. For example, suppose the files you wish to restore are on
C: and the original UNC name was \\hosta\c$. If you changed the machine
name to hostb, then C:'s UNC name is now \\hostb\c$. Since \\hosta\c$ no
longer exists, restoring to the default location won't work. Therefore you
need to specify the restore destination. For example:

   dsmc restore \\hosta\c$\myfile.txt c:\

to restore myfile.txt to the root of C:

If this does not help, then please provide *detailed* information about
your problem. As a general rule, the more specific information you include
in your problem description, the more likely it is that you are to get a
helpful answer. In this case, "more specific information" would include,
at a *minimum*, your client operating system name and version, TSM client
version (i.e. 5.1.6.0, not just 5.1), the old host name, the new host
name, your exact restore scenario (i.e. what are you restoring and what
commands are you using?), and the exact output you are seeing.

Andy
