Lindy, This is what exactly I have done in my case at my work place. You need to tune network settings too! Yes we can specify second host name address for second Giga Card. What I have seen is while using smitty for N/W configuration it somehow does not allow to have same Hostname for two NIC Cards. At the same time /etc/hosts gets updated with same host name for two ips.
This is what you can do .You can create DNS entry any how for the server .And edit /etc/hosts accordingly. Use ifconfig to change hostname on second card. Still if you problem e mail me directly. I am using the en0 at present 10/100mb network....the application will connect via this card but I need my backups and nfs mounts to connect via the gigabit card. Can you specify a second host name on the server for the gigabit card address ? Any ideas....????
