Nancy, You are lucky with os390 that tape management is very sophisticated, and is handled outside of TSM by a combination of tape management system, such as DFRMM , library management system, in my case STK hsc/library station, and the os390 operating system itself. I write TSM to two tape libraries one local, one remote and although I cuurently only use a single server instance for this purpose, the tape drives are shared happily with numerous other applications. There would be no problem to have another instance of TSM. All you need to do in TSM is use taming conventions to ensure that the 2 TSM instances can be directed to use their own tape ranges. You need to talk to your os390 storage specialists/sysprogs to fill out the details. John .

These servers will need to share a very limited number of tape drives in two shared automatic tape libraries (one local and one remote). We will need to do all the daily maintenance tasks in approximately the same time slot. In addition, migrations or database backups could kick off at any time on either of the servers. How are other TSMer's handling the scheduling and sharing of tape drives between two servers? I have developed some scripts within TSM that "kind-of" handle the scheduling and sharing of tape drives in a semi-efficient manner, but this is certainly not an ideal solution. Has anyone written a "tape drive manager" or know of a packaged solution? Thanks!
