G'day Alex, Unfortunately, the only SUPPORTed linux kernels are the ones as listed in the readme. Which means if you encounter any problems running a different kernel - you'll be asked to go back to the supported kernels to see if your problem still exists.
As to the questions of vulnerabilities with running just the supported kernels - I guess there will be many views on that - but if your TSM server is running in your network, without public access, then I dont think you'd be any more vulnerable (infant I think you are less, but I digress) to running a Windows machine that doesnt have a service pack (or hot fix), that fixes know exploits. Now, if you want to run TSM on Linux without tape hardware (using say, virtual volumes or disk pools), then you really only need to be concerned with the GLIBC version that you are running. (I run TSM on Linux that is tapeless, on RH 7.3 custom kernel, without any problems.) If you need the old kernel, I have it on the A/NZ TUG site - details below. ...deon --- Have you looked at the A/NZ Tivoli User Group website? http://www.tuganz.org Deon George, Customer Support Account Engineer, IBM Australia Office: +61 3 9626 6058, Fax: +61 3 9626 6622, Mobile: +61 412 366 816, IVPN +70 66058 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ibm.com/tivoli "ADSM: Dist Stor Manager" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote on 13/06/2003 12:04:16 AM: > Regarding TSM 5.1 Extended on RedHat Linux 9.0: > > When I read in the manual for TSM install, it said that TSM requires the > 2.4.9-31(smp) kernel.
