I am talking about the TSM client software, not the machine on which it is running. In order for the software to crash, it must have been performing some kind of operation, i.e. starting up (say, after a reboot or NET START command), shutting down (in preparation for a reboot, or NET STOP command), running a scheduled operation (like backup), etc.
In cases such as these, it is helpful to know all the circumstances surrounding the crash. I suspect the scheduler service may have been starting up (like after a reboot or NET START command), in which case it could be related to APAR IC35271. I recommend moving to the latest patch level, 5.1.5.15, available at: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/patches/client/v5r1/Windows/WinNT/v515 Regards, Andy Friday, March 28, 2003 08:24 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: From: "Amini, Mehdi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Dr Watson I did mean the Client...The client is a DNS server that is not yet in production...The only thing that I can see it doing at that time is Virus Scan. If so, can you post it? (It may be large, so zip it up.) If you are not sure whether you have the log, run the following from an OS prompt: drwtsn32.exe This will bring up the Dr. Watson configuration dialog. The "Log File Path" will show you where to look for drwtsn32.log. If the log file does not exist, then you should configure Dr. Watson as your default debugger, so if you get another crash, the log file will be generated. Here is how to do this: a) Configure Dr. Watson: Run drwtsn32.exe. In the configuration dialog, make sure the following items are checked: - Dump Symbol Table - Dump all Thread Contexts - Append To Existing Log File - Visual Notification Also make sure that "Number of Instructions" is set to at least 20. After verifying these settings, click "OK". b) Configure Dr. Watson as the default debugger. To do this, run the following from an OS prompt: drwtsn32 -i In addition, what specifically was TSM doing at the time the crash occurred? Check dsmsched.log and dsmerror.log to see what messages were issued just before the crash.
