Thats true. When we installed our first 3590's, we had to greatly increate the MIH values. Something crazy like 25-minutes is the recommendation.
I would still check into the microcode level, though ! Went back > and relabeled tapes that previously were unlabelable. We have, as far as I can tell, solved our problem. We had to increase the missing interrupt time for the 3590 drives. If an I/O operation is pending for longer than the missing interrupt time, OS/390 will decide that the operation failed.
