What do you mean, "they are in the inport". The 3494 should put the tapes away with a category of FF00 and then you just check them in. You should be able to do a mtlib command to see their status.
I believe you are getting confused with the J on the tape. That is not part of the serial number. That is the tape type. The serial number should be the next 6 digits. Paul D.
