Hi Karel! As a matter of fact I don't have copy tapes in the bunker, they are written to a copy library in another building. I'm not implementing mirroring to be safe, we just don't want the hassle of recovering the failed disk. Like I mentioned before, it took a considerable amount of time for several people to get RMAN in sync again. Kindest regards, Eric van Loon KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

It is just a matter of how safe you want to be. Performance isn't a issue, not that we could find out. We turn cashing on and of and back on, without finding the famous performance degradation we heart of. Must be out there, somewhere. -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: Loon, E.J. van - SPLXM [mailto:Eric-van.Loon@;KLM.COM] Verzonden: woensdag 6 november 2002 16:13 Aan: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Onderwerp: Re: Diskpool volume mirroring Hi Karel! But when you disk crashes, your data is gone too, cached or not. That is if you haven't been able to backup you storage pool before the crash occurs. Also, TSM caching has it's performance penalty... You are right, but our diskpool is large enough to hold a complete backup cycle. So a lot of data is at least a day old. I know that TSM backups up the lost data again, but this is not true of data backed up by the TDP clients. For Oracle for instance, you will have to tell the RMAN recovery catalog that previous backed up data is gone. I have had a disk crash a few months ago and it took me an hour to produce the list of TDP files which were lost. It took our DBA's a day or so to get the recovery catalog in sync again. That's why we are going to mirror the diskpool. Thanks for your answer! TSM mirroring is only for DB and Log. If you need mirroring on diskpool you have to turn to hardware mirroring. Keep in mind, the data is (in most cases) on the client, on copypool and tapepool. So you are mirroring for just a few hours of possible dataloss. -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: Loon, E.J. van - SPLXM [mailto:Eric-van.Loon@;KLM.COM] Verzonden: woensdag 6 november 2002 15:07 Aan: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Onderwerp: Diskpool volume mirroring Hi *SM-ers! Our AIX guys have added 6 SSA disk to our TSM server for mirroring and now I want to add them to TSM. However, I cannot find a way to define a mirror volume for diskpool volumes. Now my guess is that TSM mirroring is only available for database and log volumes and not for diskpool volumes. I'm I right? If so, the only alternative is using AIX mirroring for diskpool volumes? Thanks in advance for any reply!
