I thought I could do a telnet to port 1581 to a client to check this out. But on some servers with the service running, I can't connect to that port, some I can. I've never investigated further on why!

What I mean is: Is there a way to see if at least basic connectivity is there (i.e. a scheduler running)? It would be nice to run a script just before I leave from work that lets me know that at least a scheduler is running on each machine, and not have to wait for the daily report that I get every morning to realize that 5 or 6 machines were missed during the night. Does TSM make something like this? A third party? Do I make my own? Any help would be appreciated! TIA.
