We have done this once for a customer - they were unable to transfer immediately DLT libraries to TSM and used it with standalone drives for month or two. The main concern was: human should make loads/unloads of media (TSM admin was the "library robot" :) Put longer mount retension times plus SEARCHMPQUEUE. Unfortunately no long term results to help you more but it worked as normal TSM - nightly backups to disk pool, migration to tape during the morning, some reclamation in the afternoon.

Anyone have TSM implemented with DLT tape drives and no library? We have a small facility looking to move from Arc Serve to a TSM backup solution. They would like to utilize existing DLT tape drives (9 available) instead of purchasing a library. They will not be purchasing DRM either, but will need to take tapes off-site for disaster recovery. Basically, getting an NT server configured for TSM and purchasing the software and needed clients is all they can afford right now. They will be backing up 186 gig of used space from 35 NT/Win 2000 Servers. Would appreciate any comments/suggestions of a DLT no library implementation of TSM. Specifically interested in amount of time just operating TSM - excluding normal monitoring time. ** Note new area code is 479 was 501 new prefix is 314 for all 478-47XX numbers Thank you, Danielle C.
