I would almost bet it is a network problem. If you are using auto detect
many times it does not work correctly.

I will check it out the Share website. This is a brand new server, that is
why we chose to go with 5.1

Thanks to you and the others who have responded to help me out!

Were you running a previous version of TSM on the Solaris 8 system?

Go to www.share.org and look at the proceedings from Nashville. Select the
Distributed Storage Program. There were 2 performance sessions on TSM.
Eventhough they were Windows oriented, they can provide some good insight
how to isolate the problem. It could be anything. There is not a tenth the
required information here necessary to isolate where the problem is.

Subject: Solaris Performance Problems

Hi!

We recently installed TSM 5.1 on Solaris 2.8. The performance is terrible
and I can't get any better going to tape than I do to disk. We already
tried moving from filesystems to raw logical disk for our disk pools. It
helped some but not enough to make a difference on anything.

I have tuned my server with the following parameters:

bufpoolsize 131072
logpoolsize 2048
movebatchsize 1000
movesizethresh 500
tcpwindowsize 65536
txngroupmax 256
tcpnodelay yes
uselargebuffers yes
selftunetxnsize yes
selftunebufpoolsize yes

What type of performance are others seeing? Any help would be greatly
appreciated to understand what we are doing wrong.

Thanks!
