Hello Smer's Can anyone tell me about backing up raw logical volumes with Image Backup on the 4.2 and above clients? Can you specify a particular file/database/ or whatever, OR do you have to back up all as in a backupset? And, if so, where can I get some info. on all this? Thanks again in advance TSM Admin Bill Rosette Papa Johns Pizza International

However, there is an Image Backup that can be used to backup a raw lv Debbie ----- Forwarded by Deborah Bassler/IS/Corporate/Papa Johns on 05/10/02 10:28 AM ----- "Jaynie Shaffer" To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED] cc: bm.com> Subject: Re: PMR 31889,082 05/09/02 06:16 PM No. Incremental will not backup raw logical volumes. Currently, we backup all our filesystems with a nightly incr backup. Due to an oracle problem we want to change one of the filesystems to be a raw device and I just want to ensure our night backup will pick up the raw device. You can find additional information on backing up the raw logical volume in the TSM Backup/Archive Client documentation. Here is part of that information. Image (Raw Logical Volume) Backup Root User >From your local workstation, TSM enables you to back up an entire file system or raw logical volume as a single object. TSM views this as an image (or raw logical volume) backup. An image backup can be useful if you want to do any of the following: Improve the speed with which TSM restores file systems containing many small files. Conserve resources on the server during backups since only one entry is required for the image. Provide a point-in-time picture of your file system, which may be useful if your enterprise needs to recall that information. For special considerations regarding point-in-time restores, see Backup Image. Provide a picture of your file system unrelated to point-in-time. Restore a file system or raw logical volume that has been corrupted. Data will be restored to the same state it was when the last logical volume backup was performed. Image backup is supported on AIX, Solaris, and HP-UX. Thank you. Jaynie. Technical Support Internet Address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] office hours 2:30 - 11:00 pm CT
