I surrender.
I am not familiar with tape format but always thought that there is only
data. Still do not know are the file names found enough and complete: how
the aggregates are handled, what when we have a file spanning more than
one tape, etc.
There was a service (and I think still exists) from HDD vendors - they
were able to recover some of the data from a crashed disk. I prefer to
have a backup on hand. Same for TSM - that's why copypools are designed
for.

Zlatko,

I ran the old adsmtape utility against a DLT4 TSM 4.1.5 tape and a list of
filenames scrolled up my screen. I couldn't get the data off (yet) but
the
tape certainly seemed to know what files it had.

There is no list of file identification on the data tape. That's why TSM
DB
is designed for. If the DB does not point to data in the tape you can
guess
but not be sure what actually is there. How did you reached this point
(DELete VOLume DIScard=Yes ??) ? If this did not happen as result of human
error let all us know.

Is there anyway that I can take a tape from a storage pool that has NOT
been
reclaimed and read what files are on it and import that list into the TSM
database.

Any help would be great!
