It indeed seems very uncertain. The only information I received was that IBM had withdrawn a BMR promotion. They said that the announcement did withdraw the BMR from TSM from marketing. But, not promoting the product can't be a good sign.
Here's what I received... >|-------------------------------------------------------------------------- | >|VERITAS Acquisition of The Kernal Group: Strategy Update and U.S. and | >|Canada Promotion Withdrawal | >|-------------------------------------------------------------------------- | > > >On January 1, 2002, VERITAS Software Corporation acquired The Kernal Group >Inc., the developer of Bare Metal Restore. VERITAS is our chief competitor >in the area of storage management solutions. Bare Metal Restore is a >disaster recovery solution for Windows and Unix environments that >integrates with Tivoli Storage Manager. IBM has a contract in place to >resell Bare Metal Restore for Tivoli Storage Manager, with support and >maintenance provided by The Kernal Group (now VERITAS) until March 2003. > >Due to this situation, IBM announced yesterday, January 15, 2002, the >immediate withdrawal of the current promotion in the United States and >Canada for Bare Metal Restore for Tivoli Storage Manager. Although IBM has >withdrawn the promotion, we will continue to ship products previously >ordered under the promotion through February 15, 2002. However, this >announcement does not withdraw the Bare Metal Restore for Tivoli Storage >Manager product from marketing. Orders can still be placed, but are no >longer eligible for the promotional discount. -----Original Message----- From: PAC Brion Arnaud [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, February 20, 2002 8:02 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: BMR solution ... what happens with TKG ? Hi *SMer's Would like to know if anybody of you has any information about pricing of BMR solution provided by The Kernel Group. I would also apreciate any comments about the possible future of this product : it seems TKG has been ingested by IBM, and Veritas, a former competitor of TSM will now commercialize and make future developments for BMR-TSM. Seems very strange and uncertain to me ! Thanks in advance !
