I've been looking for a new optical jukebox for my system at home since my old HP unit died in the midst of an upgrade.
I was looking at an Sony OSL-2001, a nice, compact, fairly inexpensive unit (used, of course), but it appears to be the ONLY Sony library that's unsupported. It uses the Sony 2.6GB drives (which ARE supported by TSM, alone or in jukeboxes like the older 3995's) and appears to be in the same family of jukeboxes manufactured by Sony (OSL-6000, 10000, etc), but isn't on the supported devices list. I guess the questions are these... Does anyone know if this device is 'unoffically' supported, ie "works, but don't expect tech support"? What's the criteria for device support? I understand that Tivoli/IBM can't be expected to buy/rent/lease/borrow/beg/steal every model of optical jukebox ever manufactured, but it seems (from the outside, looking in through dirty stained glass windows) that there shouldn't be an issue supporting one more model from a supported line of products. (Of course, if it were simple, it would probably already be done, right?) -JD.
