Can this be used imaging in junction with backup sets? I have a few web servers with well over 500,000 small files. During a recovery test it took many hours to restore this volume. I am testing out the use of backup sets for recovery purposes (so I don't need to build the TSM server first - there are a few servers I could start to restore using backup sets while I restore the TSM server)
The other option was to add more drives to these servers, and execute a command to compress all the little files into 1 for backup/restore, which would increase these times 100X Joe Cascanette The Cumis Group Limited -----Original Message----- From: Cook, Dwight E (SAIC) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2001 10:31 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: 4.2.1 IMAGE client used for "image" backups ;-) for backing up "raw" volumes (or any logical volumes...) Say you have a file system with only 10 GB but it has a million files in it... the overhead in backing up a million files is BAD but you could perform an image backup of the logical volume on which the file system resides and it would be much quicker due to the lesser amount of overhead. Granted you have to restore it as a whole but... so that is what it is used for. should have seen it earlier though. Anyone care to say what this is used for?: tivoli.tsm.client.image.aix43.32bit 4.2.1.0 # TSM Client - IMAGE Backup Client
