This is not a strange situation at all. I dealt with the same issue
during our DR test last year. Here's the steps I took:
1. Before you can restore the TSM database you'll need to update the
device configuration file (pointed to by the DEVCONFIG statement
in the dsmserv.opt file). Look for the "DEFINE LIBRARY" statement
for the 3494 and change it to read:
DEFINE LIBRARY libname TYPE=MANUAL
Save the file and restore the TSM database.
Manual 3590 drives each have an LCD which displays the volser of the
tape to mounted on that drive so you'll know which tape to mount on
which drive. As I recall, you'll also see a mount message on the TSM
console.
2. After the TSM database is restored you need to remember that the
library and drive definitions are kept there and they still reflect
the 3494 library you have at home. These need to be changed, too.
Start the TSM server and bring up an admin session (dsmadmc) and
issue these commands:
DEL DRIVE 3494lib drivename <- do this for all 4 tape drives
DEF LIBR 3590LIB TYPE=MANUAL
DEF DRIVE 3590LIB drivename DEVICE=devicename <- do all 4 drives
UPD DEVCLASS classname LIBR=3590LIB MOUNTL=4 <- do this for each
devclass which used
the 3494 library
After doing these steps I was able to restore files to a NetWare server.
Here's the URL of a page at adsm.org which talks about the same thing
(which
is how I found out about this)
http://msgs.adsm.org/cgi-bin/get/adsm0002/343.html
Let me know if you need any further info.
