The TSM Client for OS/390 runs in OMVS and can only backup HFS file systems.
The TSM client will not run and backup regular OS/390 disk volumes or
datasets. That's why they still have DFSMShsm and DFSMSdss. The TSM client
is installed into your HFS file system at the /usr mountpoint.
So, yes, the TSM client runs on OS/390, but will only run in OMVS and backup
HFS filesystems at the file level.

of IBM OS/390 USS V2R6 and V2R7 are only supported via
Tivoli Storage Manager V3.7. Maybe there was some
miscommunication but this is where I got my info. from
and previously working @ IBM we ran earlier versions
of ADSM/TSM on the mainframe.
