I figured I need to up it to at least 3 and perhaps 5 but not 100. I don't want to go too high since I know some clients/customers who would bump the client side and then cause the server to run out of sessions/resources. When I bumped everyone on this server to 2 (default=1), the problems went away.
I thought replication would effect sessions since they do show up as sessions.
